Joshua Grundy

intro

3: My project was, to design a community centre that promotes social cohesion between elderly residents and young people rehabilitating from juvenile detention, addressing both youth reintegration and elderly loneliness through shared spaces and activities. My vision for the centre was to include fitness facilities, a plunge pool and spa, studios, craft rooms, a cafe, and a library/IT suite to enrich the interests of the clients. The building is orientated to maximise natural light, strengthening connections to nature and surrounding apartments, and is split into two structures linked at second-floor level to accommodate a key pedestrian route between Brayford Pool and the high street. It also incorporates soft night-time lighting for safe circulation and adopts a net-zero design approach guided by UK sustainability strategies.
